I have repeated the process 3-4 times (restoring from backup) mostly testing keyrings if in place.
Same thing occurs.
Any pointers please?

neither of these are a hyprland crash. Can you share a crash report?

xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland is not related?

Anyway it will cost some time to recover from backup (which works fine).
I assume you want a full journal.
Is that correct?

Here it is

@vaxry

I am really puzzled with this. Can’t get it to work.

So I went for a rather unorthodox approach, to narrow down the options.
In pacman.conf I went for

IgnorePkg = hypr* xdg-desktop-portal* aquamarine*

which in turn does not update the following:

warning: aquamarine: ignoring package upgrade (0.9.4-2 => 0.9.5-3)
warning: hyprgraphics: ignoring package upgrade (0.1.6-1 => 0.2.0-1)
warning: hypridle: ignoring package upgrade (0.1.7-1 => 0.1.7-2)
warning: hyprland: ignoring package upgrade (0.51.1-1 => 0.51.1-2)

There are some 50+ other updates that were installed. I don’t think it is necessary to list but I could should you need them.

Rebooted and everything works as expected. No issues, nothing reported in the journal.

So this to me looks like a hyprland glitch. I could be wrong since “you 'r da man”.

To further narrow down the cause of hyprland failing, your expertise is needed. It is beyond the scope of my knowledge base.
I know you are a busy man and I am thankful for your work.
I got an X11 openbox installation working so this is not a life or death issue for me.
However a solution or pointers would be highly appreciated.

TIA

I can confirm that with latest update, in particular:

pacman -Ss hyprland | grep -i installed

extra/hyprcursor 0.1.13-2 [installed]
extra/hyprgraphics 0.2.0-2 [installed]
extra/hypridle 0.1.7-4 [installed]
extra/hyprland 0.51.1-4 [installed]
extra/hyprland-qt-support 0.1.0-8 [installed]
extra/hyprland-qtutils 0.1.5-3 [installed]
extra/hyprlock 0.9.2-3 [installed]
extra/hyprpolkitagent 0.1.3-2 [installed]
extra/hyprshot 1.3.0-4 [installed]
extra/hyprsunset 0.3.3-3 [installed]
extra/hyprutils 0.10.0-1 [installed]
extra/hyprwayland-scanner 0.4.5-1 [installed]
extra/xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland 1.3.10-5 [installed]

hyprland works as expected. So I will mark this as solved
Kudos.

Another issue came up when I issued
hyprpm update

System completely crashed, monitor flashed continuously, keyboard froze. Inevitably a hard reset followed.

Trying again to update the plugins, took me nowhere. I tried uninstalling the url(official plugins), cleared cache, tried update. Nada.
Logout was no joy, tried a couple of reboots and finally I was able to reinstall.

Activated the ones I am using:

hyprpm list

│ Plugin csgo-vulkan-fix

hyprfocus does not produce anymore the effect “shrink” that I want. I have seen some sporadic posts from users (can’t really remember where) that hyprfocus is not working as expected. Anyway, that is not an important issue for me. Just reporting it.

Thank you again.
Be well.
