Currently using KooL dotfiles, wanna try another conf
How about making your own? You’ll learn a lot in the progress and it is way more personal
“better” is completely up to you. They are very different is every way. HyDE is super stylized but I find it harder to modify. ML4W is easy to modify but his sym linking everything and using scripts for almost everything and code is very different parts is something I find annoying. But his flatpak apps to make config edits are very nice. It’s a great config for someone new to hyprland.
Agreed, I use HyDE and when I want to make a change it is tough. Starting from the basics will be more useful in the long run unless you never want to make changes yourself.
Agreed. One reason I stuck with Jak’s is it covers a lot of distros. So the code is very portable. If you decide to change distro it’s the same config. You don’t have to start over. His setup of the waybar for example, where you can mix and match any config, with any CSS is amazing for example.
Ultimately when I fully moved to NixOS I created my own config.
All of these devs can teach you something. Arco and Archcraft do something I wish more custom configs did. Put their environment configs underneath their DE/WM. Not just in $HOME/.config. So hyprland would have ~/.config/hypr/waybar, rofi, etc… So you could have hyprland, wayfire, niri etc. w/o overwriting each other.
Regards,
HyDE is like perfect in design, fully themed etc. ML4W is easier to configure, install, especially with the new app.
Jak’s script is the first script I used and it is more similar to “basic”. Easy to configure, change things etc. It is not “eye catchy” like HyDE
There are also hypr.luna and End4 but mostly similar to others
Maybe sound strictly off-topic, but I’ve installed Omarchy in a VM for trying it… and man! Looks good, runs good… In the downside it has too much scripts for everything for my taste. A little mess if you consider it to be the base for your own config at some point.
I use hyde and since it is really hard to configure, I created my own theme and wallpapers and modified some python codes. I think it is not bad in terms of support and optimization. I used to use ML4W, but it had configuration problems. When I rebooted, all my configurations were deleted and jakoolit is very problematic. There are optimization problems and theme support problems even though the configuration is good. However, I think the best for me is the hyde dotfiles configurations for now.
