I was thinking of buying a used pc with a 2080 ti, but I have no clue how the experience with NVIDIA on wayland (and, specifically, hyprland) is nowadays. is it seamless or are there random things you need to do, like it was 3-4 years ago?
1050 Ti here. 580.159.04 driver. I package it myself.
This. Zero hyprland issues ever that were related to the nvidia or the gpu.
You can read my compendium of now-solved driver issues if you’re bored.
I tracked 7 issues until resolution.
I’ve not had any regression in the past 8 driver releases of the 580 branch.
Just to echo tekstryder, I use a 4060 M and so far had absolutely no issues. Neither with wayland nor hyprland specifically. I installed the drivers and it just worked perfectly out of the box.
Great for me. i use a 4070ti with zero problems. Hyprland has been my daily driver with my nvidia card for the past 6 months and haven’t ever ran into an issue graphically.
Absolutely flawless. I came out of curiosity following the instructions from the wiki. Since then it has been a fantastic experience and I have been daily driving Hyprland ever since.
4070 Super here.
I had issues with drivers in the past, like two-three years ago, but now I don’t have any issues. So random things to do were 3-4 years ago, as you said. Now it’s fine as long you install them from the package manager, otherwise some compatibility issue between dependency packages may happen after upgrading due to versions desynchronization.
Just install proprietary ones with open modules (they come by default now) and never replace them.
About Hyprland integration: I am not having any issues that were caused from the drivers and probably never had. Only had issues with some nouveau driver (the only fact that it was enabled) that I had to disable in the past, like 2-3 years ago, but it doesn’t come (or not enabled) by default now as far as I remember.
So even some rendering issues come from Hyprland itself, not the driver, but they fix them operatively.
So, from my experience, no issues specific to NVIDIA, only issues with how the installation helpers were implemented. In the past. Now it just works out of the box, unless you mess with the driver packages.
RTX 3060.
