Game in unfocused workspace loses connection to server

Issue

I’m new to Hyprland. Looked around a bunch and didn’t find an answer.

I’m playing Final Fantasy XIV via Lutris. The game works well, except if I switch to a different Hyprland workspace for more than a handful of seconds, the game disconnects from the server. I can still hear sound effects and music from the game when it’s on a different workspace, so I presume it’s running, but it seems something might be blocked when its workspace is unfocused that may also be blocking its network thread?

Note, I am using the Proton GE runner with PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND set to 1, so I think it should be native Wayland and not xwayland.

The issue does not occur under KDE or Niri.

I’m wondering if there is something Hyprland does on unfocused workspaces to save on resources that I could try disabling while a game is running?

Any particular reason you’re using Lutris? Try XIVLauncher. Either get it from the AUR or compile it from here GitHub - goatcorp/XIVLauncher.Core: Cross-platform version of XIVLauncher

I’m using Lutris as a launcher for XIVLauncher. Lutris gives me an easy way to set up which Wine runner I want to use, and some other settings. Lutris launches XIVLauncher, and XIVLauncer launches the game.
