Black strip on left side of second monitor

Hi,

I recently added a second monitor to my hyprland install, and I had some issues getting it set up, but everything except one thing is working fine now. On my right monitor (I’ll call it the acer monitor from here on out), there is a black strip about an inch thick on the left side of the screen. there are borders around the rest of the screen, but for some reason the border on the left side of the acer monitor is way bigger then on any other sides. I uploaded a picture of the left side of the acer monitor.

My monitor config is generated by nwg-displays and looks like this:

monitor=desc:Acer Technologies KC242Y A 1048089463W01,[email protected],0x0,1.0
monitor=desc:ONN 100002487 0x01010101,[email protected],-1920x0,1.0

And I load that config in ~/.config/hypr/hyprland.conf using:

source=~/.config/hypr/monitors.conf

There are also some other config files that werer generated by other nwg programs, but I didn’t know what they were doing so I didn’t load them in the ~/.config/hypr/hyprland.conf file

tbh that sounds like a bad mode, does any other environment work?

If I go into GNOME, it still has that black strip, but it’s applied to both sides of the screen and both monitors. Not sure if that’s what you meant by environment, but hope that helps

that’s odd.. what about sway?

Sway does the same thing as hyprland

might be a driver issue then?

How would I check that? I have an AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT for my GPU. I’m using whatever driver fedora provides

I don’t know, but if all environments have some form of a bar, then either your driver, or your monitor is bust.

Ok. Thanks! I’m pretty sure the monitor is fine seeing as my mom used it for her setup before she gave it to me. I’ll see if I can open an issue with the driver in hopes I can get more help there
