I use waybar because it’s responsive & popular
I use a highly modified version of the caelestia dots written with Quickshell.
So far I’m on waybar as I’m familiar with it, but I’ll probably be looking in switching to something else soon just to try. I’m curious to see what the desktop experience will use?
It’ll use Quickshell, which allows you to create custom Qt widgets.
I have been too lazy/busy to move from Waybar to AGS, but Quickshell looks sick. Would you say that it is worth it to move over?
Hyprpanel, because I’m lazy. Like really really lazy.
Otherwise I’d head into Quickshell … hopefully one day ![]()
waybar, but been thinking about switching to quickshell for a long time now
I use yambar. it uses only 20mb of ram btw
But it’s not developed so I might switch to something else at some point. Likely quickshell idk
Waybar user here as well. I looked through its official GitHub repository with examples, took code of the one that looked the most usable for me, and then slightly adjusted some things based on the existing code. If you know a bit of CSS, it is pretty simple. I was able to have a working solution I was happy with under 30 minutes, and then just gradually tweaked it as I learned and as time went on.
Funny how there is waybar, and then a few exceptions.
I’m currently on Waybar as well.
Call me crazy, but I wish I could just use the GNOME bar on hl…
just ye olde waybar ![]()

Mechabar Powered by waybar.
Somehow I entirely missed the existence of QuickShell. It looks really good.
I’m still on Plasma 6 because none of the dotfiles I’ve tried have “clicked” with me yet, and Waybar is… well, just a bar.
So integrated volume control/mixer, Bluetooth, brightness control (DDC), network, and a calendar with a quick event overview would be perfect!
I know I could build it myself, and I would, if I had as much time now as I did 13 years ago when I started with Linux.
So let’s see what you’ll cook up with HyprPerks and Desktop Experience. ![]()
I’ve found a sweet spot on waybar with my dotfiles but man quickshell looks so good and adds a lot of functionalities. Might check it out if I ever have enough time to start ricing again
I use waybar for it’s simplicity. Easy to design with CSS
Love your dots, end!
Just some basic waybar. Haven’t really bothered with anything more customizable as i rarely use the bar, just kinda there. Half the times i just end up killing the bar as everything has a keybind
half the time I also end up killing the bar, but that’s because for some reason it tends to freeze a lot! This happened when I used nwg-panel, and also while using ashell. It’s quite annoying because it has made me lose track of time several times, where my time widget has stopped updating because the bar froze ;-).
I just want more screen space, it’s pointless having the bar there when not in use (in my opinion) I have had some issues with waybar if the desktop suspends for a long period, for those problems just have “pkill -SIGUSR2 waybar” in hypridle when hyprlock is exited. For the rare times the bar is up when desktop suspends. Then just a keybind to toggle the bar or check my phone for time..
