Issues with Proton VPN app

Hi. I found that the ‘Proton vpn’ app has fixed size 450x700 window, floating. & it cant be changed to tile.
This app doesn’t require an open window to run because there is a waybar module to launch the window if needed. So it starts without a window.
Im using the proton-vpn-gtk-app, not the flatpak version.

I have 2 issues to ask about.

  1. for some reason the waybar module seems to vanish after some time (probably when suspend kicks in) so then the vpn daemon is running but the app is ‘lost’ & cant be re-opened because its already running. You just lost control (have to log out/in)
    Not sure how to deal with this?

  2. is there a way to override the apps insistence to be fixed size floating?

This might not be the exact answer you wanted, but Mullvad does the same thing. I just move it to a different workspace. Out of sight, out of mind, but I still keep full control over it.

Yeah, thanks. That’s what Ive been doing, I just assign the app to workspace4 when it launches & this seems to work better.

windowrule = match:class proton.vpn.app.gtk, workspace 4

If the tray icon does crash (which seems to happen less) then the app window in workspace 4 can then be used to quit the app & you reopen it the tray icon is back.
